Target Species

Baby's Breath

Family:  CaryophyllaceaeGenus:  GypsophilaSpecies:  spp.Synonyms:    

Growth Form:  Forb

General:   Perennial herb, consisting of up to three species, including G. paniculata.

Flowers:   Flowers tiny, white to pink, button-shaped, and create dense clusters at the tips of branches.

Fruits and Seeds:  

Leaves:   Leaves are opposite with or without a clasping band of tissue around stem.

Stems or Branches:   Numerous, slender, delicate, grows 12-20 in. tall and is openly branching.

Threatens:   Beach and dune communities, sand prairies, gravel hill prairies; areas with full sun and sandy or gravely soils

Look-Alikes:   Silene antirrhina, S. cserei

Distribution:   Native to eastern and central Europe and Asiatic U.S.S.R. to western China. Widespread in Canada and the northern U.S.
